What is a Michelin Star?
Restaurants receive either one, two or three Michelin-stars. They are marked on:
- The quality of the products
- The mastery of flavour and cooking
- The personality of the cuisine
- The consistency between visits
- The value for money
For many chefs, a Michelin-star is the most sought-after honour and widely regarded as the hallmark of fine dining.
What's new on the Michelin list in 2026?
It's been a special year for Michelin in Scotland. This year has seen two new restaurants, 1887 Restaurant in Wester Ross and Killiecrankie House in Perthshire, added to the prestigious list of one star Michelin restaurants in Scotland.
Lots of other Scottish restaurants have also been awarded the Bib Gourmand distinction this year, which are a must try for any foodie - they are Mara in Aberdeen, and The Clarence and Angeethi by Sagar Massey, both in Glasgow. Sebb's, on Miller Street in Glasgow, also received the 'Exceptional Cocktail Award' to add to its Bib Gourmand.
