What is a Michelin Star?
Restaurants receive either one, two or three Michelin-stars. They are marked on:
- The quality of the products
- The mastery of flavour and cooking
- The personality of the cuisine
- The consistency between visits
- The value for money
For many chefs, a Michelin-star is the most sought-after honour and widely regarded as the hallmark of fine dining.
What's new on the Michelin list in 2025?
It's been a special year for Michelin in Scotland, with the award ceremony for Great Britain & Ireland taking place in Glasgow's Kelvingrove Museum. This year has seen two new Edinburgh restaurants, Lyla and Avery, added to the prestigious list of one star Michelin restaurants in Scotland.
Lots of other Scottish restuarants have also been awarded the Bib Gourmand distinction this year, which are a must try for any foodie - they are Margot in Glasgow, Gaga in Glasgow, Skua in Edinburgh and Ardfern in Leith. Fish Shop in Ballater has also been distinguished in the guide with distinction and a Michelin Service Award.
